Food Wars- Detroit

(Program airs August 25th at 10 PM)

Season 2 kicks off with an age-old rivalry: American vs. Lafayette, A Coney Island Showdown!

Every Detroiter has weighed in on this debate at some point in their life. For generations, people have feuded over which adjoining establishment is king of the coney. Following suit down 3 generations of Detroit coney island eaters, Lafayatte has been my pick.

However, this is no laughing matter. As the original coney island restaurants, much is at stake. Like the Hatfieds versus the McCoys, American and Lafayette will battle it out to the finish. Who will win is anybody's guess...

Lafayette or American? 'Food Wars' explores Detroit coney rivalry on tonight's episode | MLive.com

Well... according to 4 locals and 1 food expert, the Food Wars decision rendered American Coney Island Detroit's best over Lafayette in a 3-2 victory.

I still stand by Lafayette as my favorite, but to each his/her own.

American! But to be fair, both establishments have great people running and working it.

I'm with Jwo85 on this one. I like American, but probably because that is the first place one I was taken to when I got into the Detroit area for college. If I had hooked up with some Lafayette people I would probably have like them best. Frankly, if one place has a shorter line than the other that is where I am going to go (you can start being shocked and insulted now ), both are good and both treat you right.

I can't tell a difference and I've had them back to back. I prefer Lafayette a bit but I'll go to either. Lafayette gets busier at night and feels safer to me.

Lafayette gets their hot dogs from Winter Sausage in Eastpointe (as does Comerica Park.)
