What you're ALL missing is a $5000 house may have a $5000 a year tax bill -check it out FIRST.

The median house price last month was $5816 as reported to the Detroit News- think about it - that means there are way more houses available (but probably not as advertised for UNDER $10k than over it. THINK!

Prices are down 50% from last year - and there is no reason that they should not continue to slide. Its people with jobs and education who are moving out - there will be more layoffs. BUY if you have to live - not for investment.

I read somewhere about NoHam....which is North of Hamtramck...which makes sense, between Hamtramck and up in the direction of Ferndale, Royal Oak, etc.

I live one block from the Detroit/Hamtramck border, and please, do not buy a house you don't intend to live in. It will be stripped and the neighbors don't want to deal with your squatters.

Default Abandon houses and squatters

Cherry,

My x-fiance and son live in that area as well. I can testify about the squatters (usually drug addicts), as there was an abandon house next to my x's house. Thank God it was torn down. She lives 2 blocks west of Mound road, the first block off mound almost every other house is abandon.

The sad thing is that I live in Warren (bordering Eastpointe) and it certainly has its share of empty houses.

Paul
