I am moving to downtown Detroit and have been looking around for a decently priced 1 bedroom apartment online. Given the state of the US economy (and Detroit in particular) I assumed that rent would be lower compared to the rates of the past few years. I would also assume that in downtown detroit there is an overwhelming supply with little demand. However, all of the nicer places (millender (sp?), some other lofts in the area, etc.) I have seen seem to be higher than I would expect given the reasons I previously mentioned. I did a couple of virtual tours, and a few companies want more money than what I was paying for a similar apartment in midtown Atlanta! So in short I have 2 questions: 1.) What are some of the more affordable apartments in downtown detroit? 2.) What kind of negotiating power do you think I would have with regards to getting a lower rate at some of the more luxurious apartments, and any apartment complex in general? Thanks in advance.
