The north and east ends of Dearborn have a large Middle Eastern population. The southeast corner is a bit rough; it is largely industrial and does border on Delray (a Detroit neighborhood). It is a very nice place to live, lots of new bistros and shops have opened up along Michigan Ave, there is a world class museum and a performing arts center, schools are fairly good, there is a community college and a branch of the U-M, variety of churches, it is close to the airport, has an Amtrak station, easy access to major interstates. Not sure what taxes are currently running.

Not sure exactly what you're looking for but take a look at the area of housing between Outer Drive, Michigan Avenue and as far east as maybe Pelham.

The west side of Dearborn has good schools. The rest of Dearborn, not so great schools. (Check out greatschools.net)

Dearborn is clean, has lots of neighborhood parks (many with pools) and a nice community center, however, most of the schools leave you wanting. I believe Dearborn high has a 7 out of 10 rating at greatschools.net. The other twh high schools are much lower and struggle with ESL issues. Unfortunately, Dearborn does not do school of choice so you can't put a college bound higher performing student in the one decent school. You're stuck with private schools or charters if you can can get in.

So my answer is, yes provided you're talking about living in the Dearborn high school area. No if you're elsewhere. Houses, not surprisingly, are more valuable in the Dearborn high area.

So, the areas around Edsel Ford and Fordson High Schools aren't too hot?

They're ok.

Not terrible or slummy, but no, not too hot.

Also, keep in mind that these areas are VERY Arab, so if you are not Arab, and don't speak some Arabic, you may not feel "completely at home".

Just moved to Dearborn, and hate it. Boring, conservative. Sort of like living in a nursing home. Trying to figure out how to sell the house without loosing too much on it. Don't do it.
The only nice thing about it - is the Arab culture - makes things more interesting and the eastern food is good.
