I just found this out a moment ago. Major retailers in Detroit are headed out of there. This is getting scary. Detroit has been on the decline for decades, starting with the layoffs from GM and Ford. You just found this out months ago? You have got to be kidding me! Major retailers have been leaving Detroit for decades. According to their online store locators, the following major retailers don't have a single location within Detroit city limits:

This isn't really new. There haven't been any major grocery stores in the city limits for many years. Starbucks had to scale back and close down a lot of its stores (nationwide) a few years ago. Borders is also having problems nationwide that will likely lead to widespread store closures.

Lady: Aldi has two chain stores in Detroit and one in Highland Park, MI. Other than Aldi, no other chains are in Detroit.
Aldi locations in the City of Detroit:

I remember when it was big news that Detroit was getting a Farmer Jacks after decades without a major grocery chain.

The Borders in downtown Detroit wasn't even a full-size store. It was only about 8000 square feet, roughly 1/3 the size of an average Borders store. And even it eventually closed.
