it gets tiresome seeing the only cheerleaders in the state residing on the judgemental Grand Rapids side.
There's more cheerleaders over here because it's better over here. Naturally, more people will have pride and, as a result, do some cheerleading for Michigan.

Maybe the "judgemental people" aren't the problem. Maybe the "judgees" are the problem. Quit doing crap that needs to be judged, for crying out loud!!!

Now that you mention it, I realize that's true. I never really noticed that before.

I'm sorry, but what do you mean by that last point exactly? This isn't a west Vs. East forum, nor am I a Michigan basher by any means. I grew up in SW Michigan. I am curious to have you further elaborate on what you mean by the judgees being part of the problem.

Mostly tongue-in-cheek. Don't get too bent out of shape. I've always been annoyed by claims of "judgementalism." That was my (lame?) idea of a creative response.

By the way, what exactly did you mean when you painted an entire metro area as judgemental? Do tell.

You're the one who brought the fightin' words in here, not me. I was acting in self-defense. This thread didn't ask for opinions about the Grand Rapids side, did it? Who brought that in here?

Just went to the Detroit Beer factory I do believe, and it was great! Also had a really good hot dog at a place near the cadillac building, but I forgot the name of it. Any help would be appreciated as I always forget the name of that place!
I feel that the posters on the western side are less open to other opinions then other posters in other areas. GR is like any city that has a mixture of people. It is not a 100% judgemental area.

There is probably some truth to that. Sorry, I just get a little defensive about GR sometimes.

And how! But I'm not out of steam yet. Bring on the doubters! We'll win them over (or just lose 'em in the Ren Cen).

By the Detroit Beer factory, do you mean Stroh's Brewery?

They might have meant this place

Detroit Beer Co. - Home

They make all their own beer . My youngest son has been there and said you could get lambasted trying all of their flavors lol

I think Stroh's ice cream is now made in Dallas(the beer has been gone for sometime now) . Try Hudsonville ice cream made near Holland , Michigan which is starting to show up on grocery store shelves

Glad the OP took the time to share this experience. Detroit is a great city that unfortunately fell into the hands of sub human thugs long ago, but if a competent and decent governing body is ever re-established it will certainly make a major comeback. There's legions of Michiganders that had to leave the Detroit area for employment and financial reasons who would jump at the chance to return someday if things turned around.

I'm telling you, the ingredients are all in place........nice riverfront, proximity to Canada, great architecture, sports stadiums centrally located, theater district, casinos........the restaraunt scene could be better in comparison with some other towns, but that would certainly take off with renewed interest.

Yeah, that's all perfume & roses, and there are some larger than life problems in the Detroit neighborhoods themselves that have to be tackled, but as tough a task as it seems, I refuse to think it impossible. These southern and western boom cities are becoming overcrowded with transplants, and sooner or later a lot of them willl be looking to get back to their roots.

Again, nice to see a positive thread about Motown. Thanks, OP.
