Don't forget Waterford. I know I know it doesn't have the greatest reputation but I was born and raised there and my family still lives on Elizabeth Lake. Can't beat it if you like water. A lot of people who do not want to pay the higher taxes in the surrounding areas have moved there.

Here is a quick update about Pontiac. It is like any other city that has fallen on hard times. The auto plants pulled out and then the shopping went to the bigger glitzier malls and over time this took its toll. It is sad to see, but like other similar cities there are still "pockets" where people are living well and seem to like living in the area. Just be aware that overall the city is depressed. Oakland County Police have taken over where the city was not able to keep a police force and this has been an improvement. There are some rather popular clubs and concert venues in the downtown area. Some young people do hang out there on weekends...also, check out Bo's restaurant and the "Blue Note" if you are downtown. They are traditions in the area. Keep in mind that Pontiac' inner city is relatively small. So shelters and halfway houses that are there are visible and though necessary, some people judge the inner city by those elements that are present because of negative circumstances. I still feel a connection with the city and when I am downtown, I always feel a sense of sadness and loss. A once great city has fallen to its knees and who will help her get back up? However, this sense of sadness becomes downright mourning when I go to the city of Detroit, now that is a tragedy on a much grander scale!!
