I came across an article about pathways being paved by ordinary citizens and in some cases college students. What kinds of implications do you think this could mean? I know much of the population relies on other modes of transporation outside of a private car. Streets With No Name | sweet juniper!

I like to think we could finally turn this around do the Motor City has some sort of decent pubblic transportation. Maybe the pathways could be used to bring pressure to bear -- if the city ever has some revenues to work with, of course.

It might work, it might not. You have a point about the revenue. Detroit is short on money.
The pathways represent a part of Detroit that refuses to die. I read somewhere that because of the things that have been going down, things you wouldn't expect are going on. Some people hunt for their food inside of the city of Detroit. There is a story about an elderly woman who raises chickens in her yard in Detroit.

There was a post on another discussion about people buying up several lots on the same block for a song and starting their own micro-farms. Apparently there is no law against having a small amount of livestock downtown. That was the "Detroit: the Next Berlin?" discussion IIRC -- check it out.

I think I posted on that one. That post helped me to find the article that I just posted for this thread.
