The second story turned out not to be an attempt at anything. The passenger was legitimately ill and needed to spend a lot of time towards the end of the flight in the bathroom, guess you can imagine why. I'm not sure why he was yelling and going off on the flight crew, but he had no weapon or anything else that could cause harm, was not connected in any way with any terrorist organizations, and had no criminal history.

That means that there was only one attempt made in Detroit, which is not enough to draw any conclusions from, IMHO. Was the would-be terrorist actually targeting Detroit because it is Detroit, or because it is a large American city and he was able to board a U.S.-bound plane that happened to have Detroit as its final destination? More info will presumably be coming out over the next several days and weeks, but at this time, I don't think anyone really knows if Detroit was specifically intended as this guy's target.

With Detroit's high Muslim population and international border, it is vulnerable. It's shaping up as a good location for terrorist cells to form and gain access to the US. Whether it is a target or not by overseas terrorist, who knows.
