Hi:

My fiance and I are looking into buying a home in Famington Hills...The house is off Grand River and 9 Mile Road...I heard good & bad things about the neighborhood and I'd like an objective opinion before buying.

Your help is appreciated.

Farmington Hills is a very nice area. The area you are looking at is the older part of farmington hills. Modest homes built in the early 50s to mid 60s. Some streets are nicer than others so I guess it depends what street your looking to buy on. And like anyplace you can have a great neighbor on one side and the worst on the other.

Could you PM me a link to the house with an address? I'm pretty familiar with the area and I'd like to help you out.

It is a good area, I've grown up around there. I'd lock my doors and everything but I've walked around after dark without worries.

I would be cautious about the older part of Farmington Hills.

If you are interested I have a house for sale in Madison Heights Oakland County for sale. It has excellent shopping areas, not far from I75, it is near super markets, church, library and excellent schools

Me too, someone was murdered at Independence Green about 2 years ago and eventhough the police say that it wasn't a random crime, it still freaks me out.

I lived in Farmington Hills about 3 years ago - off 14 Mile & Haggerty.

I wouldn't move to that area of FH. Move as far to the north and west as you can afford.

Personally, I'd prefer one of the older homes in the downtown area of Farmington, on or near Grand River, than most of the cookie cutter subs around 14 mile & Middlebelt and northwest of there. The homes in the downtown area have a lot more character and architectural interest, but I suppose it depends on what you're looking for. And your budget. I don't live in that area, but have always liked it and someday hope to. Downtown Farmington is absolutely charming.

Very true if you are looking to purchase, but if you're planning to rent then that's a totally different story...
