Many people don't know that Detroit had a stock exchange until the '70s when it closed. The Guardian building (called the Cathedral of Finance) is probably one of the most beautiful 1920s era skyscraper you can find anywhere.

Too bad Detroit civic leaders didn't have the vision to build on that foundation that was the financial district to be the economic backbone, when deindustrialization happened, like Chicago and Pittsburgh.

This still doesn't protect these buildings from demolition. Apparently, even though something is considereed a registered historic landmark it can still be torn down. Tiger Stadium was a registered historic landmark, so is the Michigan Central Depot which came very close to becoming rubble this past spring.
