Auburn Hills is not centrally located. You mentioned Detroit's population, yet a city with 20,000 is better? You can put the entire city of Auburn Hills in the Palace and it still wouldn't be sold out. Not sure where you are going with that one. Also, Joe Louis has a stop on the People Mover, and all you have to do is walk across the street to get on the People Mover from Ford Field or Comerica. After a Lions or Tigers game, you can go to Hockeytown Cafe, Cheli's Chili, Detroit Beer Company, Elwood Bar and Grill, Foxtown Grill among others I'm probably missing.
LOL - because nobody lives there! But the areas AROUND downtown are much more dangerous than the areas around Auburn Hills - with the exception of Pontiac of course. And there are many more people that live around Auburn hills - not "in" specifically. Go by how many live nearby - not in.
I agree about the places around Comerica and Ford Field, but there is nothing around JLA. I would be afraid to walk much further than the parking deck from JLA.

The population density of Downtown Detroit is over 4000 per sq. mile. Auburn Hills is 1200 per sq. mile. More people live in downtown Detroit than Auburn Hills. Dearborn, Livonia, Warren are 90k plus cities that border or in Livonia's case, is only a mile or two from Detroit. Wayne County is almost double the size of Oakland county. More people live near Downtown Detroit than Auburn Hills. I'm still baffled where you are going with this.

Why would you be in the outlying areas anyways? They are also going to do away with Joe Louis. The likely area for a new stadium is behind the Fox Theater.

Some great places and safe walking by the JLA are Cobo Joes, Post Bar, Anchor bar...
