I would like to invest in property in the Detroit area. Obviously the cheaper the better. What areas should I avoid completely and what areas would be suitable?

Default Detroit

I would avoid the east side. The best side to invest in is the Indian village, west side as well, around Dearborn area.

I also think Mexicantown...not sure if anyone would agree with me though. But you have an influx of, well, Mexicans moving in...quite a few businesses, etc. catering to them...and real close to the bridge to Canada as well. Corktown is nearby - another area to consider.

I would check out areas around the colleges since students need to rent.
