By Don Rauf @ 50 – HuffPost Coffee -- Even Decaf -- Could Help Cut Diabetes Risk
Quote:
Drinking six cups of coffee a day may seem extreme to some, but it could cut the risk of getting diabetes. For those worried about caffeine intake, decaf may work just as well.

Studies have found that a combination of chemicals in coffee beans may affect metabolism — the chemical processes in the body that converts or uses energy. One chemical, chlorogenic acid, Acute Effects of Decaffeinated Coffee and the Major Coffee Components Chlorogenic Acid and Trigonelline on Glucose Tolerance may lower blood sugar levels. Caffeine, however, might not make a difference.

Researchers recently discovered that both caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee are tied to reducing diabetes risk, and the more people drink, the lower their risk appears to be.
If this is true, why, after years and years of drinking 6 – 8 cups of coffee every day do I have Type-II diabetes?

Me loves my coffee. BUT, I have read some grinds can have some nasty. So, drink a light or medium roast. Choose well - organic, fair trade shade grown. Drink the bold/dark roasts once in a while. Decaf process can be dicey. Go for the swiss water method, if you are concerned about chemicals that aren't supposed to go through digestive tract.

The best way to make the coffee is in glass, an un-dyed paper filter to catch oils, and the grounds are covered with hot water to allow the coffee to drip naturally. No electricity. No questionable metals. No plastic from you know where.

NO SUGAR in the coffee, either. I use stevia. Add ceylon cinnamon to help the blood sugar, too.

Is it a recent diagnosis? Was the coffee consumption in addition to a very nutritional/healthy low sugar diet? Do you pass up the desserts, cakes, candies, alcohol, grains for greens, veggies, and the like? Exercise? Life style choices?

Hard to say, really. I have heard that Type 2 can be cured with diet and exercise. Although it is a lifestyle change, one must always follow the regimen to ensure success at the reversal. Which just makes good sense, to me.

Can You Reverse Type 2 Diabetes?

I've had Type-II for more than 15 years. And yes, Type-II CAN be reversed with diet and exercise.

You might want to watch this video even if you decide not to follow the dietary change recommendations. It's actually a pretty interesting and absorbing story of how several people were able to reverse diabetes, or reduce need for medication, by using a raw food diet under medical supervision.

Who knows, maybe the same can be done on a non-raw vegan diet?
