1. Woke-up in the morning but still in bed. I took the reading, it's 84.
2. Went for brush, had water, when up/down few stairs, and then took my reading, it's 109.
3. Had breakfast, and after 1 hour the readings are 148
4. after 2 hours, the readings are 88
My question: am I pre-diabetic !!! Looks like due to dawn effect I get the reading of 109.
Thanks. What I've seen is that my body has more blood glucose level in the mornings. Here is the sequence which I observed:
1. couple of years back, I went to doctor of annual health checkup at around 8 am ( I mean my blood drawn time) and FBG level was 103 and A1C is 5.7
2. Last year, I went to doctor around 10:00 am ( I mean my blood drawn time), FBG level 94 and A1C 5.7
3. This year, I went to doctor around 8:00 ( I mean my blood drawn time), FBG level 109 and A1C 5.9.
So if my Fasting blood is drawn as late in the morning, I see my FBG level to get normal and also after having some food BG always comes down.
Doctor is worried about my FBG and A1C.
When you wake up the body kicks out some hormones that may raise your blood sugar. Then the liver kicks out stored sugar if you don't eat right away.
IMO, testing at frequent intervals isn't necessary but that's my opinion. Bear in mind, meter readings might differ a few points (and make sure your hands are washed well...even touching food can throw a meter reading off). Important also is the food you eat. If you're eating a high carb meal (say, cereal and milk and juice for breakfast) then yes, your reading may be high at one hour. Thing is, you've indicated your two hour readings are well within the normal range. At one hour post meal your blood sugar should *ideally* be 140 or below and at two hours post meal *ideally* 120 or below.
Now, if your A1c is borderline and your doctor is getting worried, try cutting back on carbs a little and see if that helps. All carbs raise blood glucose but the worst are the "white" foods...potatoes, pasta, rice, white/wheat bread, sugar.
Perhaps you can get this under control if you watch diet and exercise. Your two hour readings, again, seem to be in the normal range so it could be the foods you're eating are kicking your one hour readings and your A1c up.
Good luck

All in my opinion only...always rely on your own doctor's opinion.
im very sensitive to carbs. a few weeks ago i had a fried fish hero, extra fish. i had it cos its hard to find fish fillet sandwiches where i am. when i got home my sugar was 225 but taking metf and victoza lowered it immediately. in 90 minutes i was down to 60.
in my case it was years and years of too many carbs that did it. not sweets but carbs
Even if you are PD, you can control it with Diet and exercise. Keep testing and see what happens.
ADA (diabetes.org) says: A1C
Normal less than 5.7%
Prediabetes 5.7% to 6.4%
Diabetes 6.5% or higher Fasting Plasma Glucose (FPG)
Normal less than 100 mg/dl
Prediabetes 100 mg/dl to 125 mg/dl
Diabetes 126 mg/dl or higher Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT)
Normal less than 140 mg/dl
Prediabetes 140 mg/dl to 199 mg/dl
Diabetes 200 mg/dl or higher
Results indicating prediabetes are:
An A1C of 5.7% – 6.4%
Fasting blood glucose of 100 – 125 mg/dl
An OGTT 2 hour blood glucose of 140 mg/dl – 199 mg/dl

After 9-10 hours of sleep and no food. <can lower BG
1. Woke-up in the morning but still in bed. I took the reading, it's 84. <-fine
2. Went for brush, had water, when up/down few stairs, and then took my reading, it's 109. <-why test?
3. Had breakfast, and after 1 hour the readings are 148 <- you usually rise at 1hr, then start to go back to pre meal at 2hr- SOME people spike at 2hrs though
4. after 2 hours, the readings are 88 <- you are close to pre meal so fine

1. couple of years back, I went to doctor of annual health checkup at around 8 am ( I mean my blood drawn time) and FBG level was 103 and A1C is 5.7 <- was it fasting or random?
2. Last year, I went to doctor around 10:00 am ( I mean my blood drawn time), FBG level 94 and A1C 5.7 <- A1C is PD
3. This year, I went to doctor around 8:00 ( I mean my blood drawn time), FBG level 109 and A1C 5.9. <- PD should have been diagnosed
SOME dr wont diagnose PD because they dont see it as "real" or they dont see it as a big deal. Get a new dr if he/she wont listen to you.
