When a Doctor writes you a script for glucometer and/or strips, does it have to specify the BRAND and/or MODEL of the GLUCOMETER?
Or can it just be very generic?
I think you will need to check with your insurance directly. The pharmacy will not know what your insurance covers (or, if they think they know, they may be wrong and you don't want that kind of surprise).
Check with your insurance. Mine sends a free one (once a year) if you call and ask.
Test strips can get pricy though, so make sure insurance covers it. Otherwise, Walmart has a very good meter and strips for cheap. Also their accuracy is rated highly.
Has anyone tried a subscription service like Diathrive? All the online reviews sound positive. And $8 per month for strips (for testing 1x/day) sounds appealing.
I just buy the meter, and get a script for the strips. I can't be bothered with the insurance for the meter. Not all insurance pays for the meter. I buy the Freestyle lite meter at CVS. It was $20 last week.
My insurance finally started covering the strips
Months ago they sent me a new one that They want us to use. I absolutely hate them
They are super small and thin and I could never get them apart and grab just one.
I don’t even have a huge hands and fingers and struggle with them I can’t imagine what somebody with big pause what do
Strips are a hit or miss with Insurance Companies. Some times they pay, other times there are problems with them. Its as if the damn things are rationed. It's always been like this. It's a damn shame.
Also for anyone on insulin the pen needles are $54 a box at drug stores including Walmart. That is the BD brand. If you buy The Relion brand at Walmart it's only $9 a box.
That just shows how we are being ripped off by the drug Companies.
Last year I was sent a bill from CVS for $636 for 300 Freestyle strips. I refused to pay it because it was covered by Medicare or Blue Cross. I spent so much time on the phone dealing with this. Medicare and Blue Cross and CVS finally fixed it and I paid $30. We should not have to go thru this for our supplies. I'm in total terror every time I go to get strips. However I refused to tolerate any of them, and will fight them. I suggest everyone don't bow down to these companies.
When strips are a covered items. For those on Medicare strips are covered at 100 percent. Reason being strips are a durable equipment item. It's just you have to fight them for it.
