If I use any sugars, the only sugars I use are Sucanant, Demerara, pure sugar cane and stevia (just make sure its the ONLY ingredient). Everything else gets put on the back burner.

Every time I see that commercial on the food channel I feel so insulted.
Snip
Stevia tastes like crap. If you add too little it doesn't taste sweet, and if you add too much it tastes bitter.
I feel insulted too by that commercial, but I don't agree with the "experts" that claim the U.S. is fatter since the introduction of High Fructose Corn Syrup (re-watched a recap of a Nightline story). I have other theories as to why, but that's not what this threads about.

Try Truvia if you're interested in Stevia. I think it's one of the best out there in terms of lack of bitterness. I haven't cooked with it on it's own, but I do add it to cooking to "up" the sweetness and have had no issues.

As for myself, I'm all about the Saccarine, Aspartame, Splenda and Stevia. I crave sweet things and these "chemicals" keep me in line and I'm happy.

Yeah, especially since consumption of HFCS has decreased over the last 10 years yet we're still fatter than ever. Not good for the waistline since it's empty calories, but some of the propaganda against it is equally ridiculous as saying "it's good for you because it's from corn."

The blame is purely on the shift from manufacturing (active, high movement jobs) to desk jobs (sedentary), technological shifts (playing outside in the 60s/70s to walking to the arcade in the 80s(the walking at least gave you some exercise) to plopping in front of the TV with an XBox or PS3), parental trends (parents used to make their children stay outside to get things done around the house vs now boomer/genx parents think every stranger in the neighborhood is trying to kidnap their children so they lock them inside).

Exactly! I totally agree! Everyone drives everywhere and hardly anyone goes out to socialize with their neighbors anymore or exercise. They roll their car into the driveway and stay inside until they roll the car out again in the morning. It seems only a handful of people are walking/jogging/bicycling in the neighborhood along with me. Kinda crazy, especially on those nice days we've been having lately.
