Losing weight/getting in shape is hard work. Do you reward yourself for your efforts or are the results you're getting enough to keep you motivated?

I try not to reward myself with food anymore. I set goals for weightloss and then reward myself with a new outfit, a mani/pedi or something non-food/drink related. I would say probably every 3 months.

I dont really reward myself but the wife sure makes sure to "reward" me for my hard efforts of staying fit. I also get "rewarded" by the amount of attention I get from women even just walking through the mall.

I don't really reward myself. If I want some ice cream, I have it. If I want a burger, I have it. I just portion. If I try to say no to myself all the time, I end up binging. I just moderate.

Usually once every couple of weeks and never with food - I usually take in a movie, buy a book or a new piece of inexpensive jewellery!

Thanks for the responses. I'm trying my best to stay away from using food as a reward, too. I'll give into cravings sometimes but I don't want to eat something just to celebrate weight loss.

I like the idea of enjoying nonfood rewards from time to time...

Rewarding good behavior is something you do for children and inmates. An adult does not need a reward for taking care of himself/herself.

Lol - even big, old adults like to get merit pay raises, don't they?

Are you seriously comparing earning a pay raise to finally correcting a lifetime of poor eating habits? By putting down the jelly donuts, you are only doing what you are supposed to be doing and should have been doing all along. That's like being late for work all year, and expecting a pay raise when you start showing up on time a week before performance review. A pay raise goes to someone who has done their best, if not beyond that, all year. (Government jobs excepted, of course.)

This is not to diminish and and all hard work you are doing... but you should be doing it for the sake of doing it, not to receive a gold star every Sunday. To think you should reward yourself for this is a good way to set yourself up for failure.

Your reward will come when you are healthy and fit and are living a happy life... then you can have that slice of cake at the office party in the name of celebration of something specific like someone's birthday. You can eat the nachos and wings at the Super Bowl Party. You don't go eating cake because it's Sunday and dammit you were good all week. That's crazy.

...or it's like doing what you're supposed to do for a year, exceeding expectations even, and getting bumped up in pay. Even the best employees start off as awkward interns. Just sayin'. Anyway, you were the one who compared those who like to reward themselves to children and prisoners (including child molesters and murderers). How do you make the jump that people losing weight rewarding themselves are in the same realm as child molesters and murderers?
