My way is the following;
I eat like a bear.
This means that whatever grown or killed on land within the northern hemisphere is edible.
Salmon is edible as well.
If I cannot see the natural way a food has come to the form it is in the store then I will only buy it very seldom.
(an exception is moms cooking and supplements, but she pretty much does the same thing)
Supplements are only bought from sources I have reason to trust. They're sadly needed because if the nutritional degradation of traditional sources of micro-nutrients.
Macros:
At the beginning of the day I start with a lot of carbs, and as it progresses I eat less and less carbs. The total ammount of carbs are regulated relative to cutting or building phases of the training.
Protein intake is pretty much at a constant through the day, protein shakes added where needed.
Fat comes along the protein in it's natural way in meat, milk, eggs etc.
Micros:
The Vitamins and omega-3s that are missing are added through supplements.
Everything in moderation and balance. Real, local and in season whenever possible. I get no satisfaction from a flavorless tomato in February, I would rather wait and have it off the vine in August.
It came to the point where I don't really want to buy any food at grocery stores, there is nothing I really want to buy there, all those 3000+ food items, flashy packaging, marketing wizardry and there is nothing I'm "passionate" about. It's either tasteless and/or generously sprinkled with chemicals (and tasteless anyway). I'm not a health "enthusiast", I eat/buy almost every food like substance under the Sun, yet my current food philosophy is to treat groceries as chemical mine field set to demolish our bodies, society, Planet, human nature itself & to separate us even further from all those things that make life worth living. Every time I set a foot in a grocery store "food philosophy" (in the sense of pointless pondering) strikes.

High protein throughout the day along with minimal fats and carbs. The protein often comes in either liquid form or bars, but also quite a bit of baked, grilled, or boiled seafood.
Is the OP a body builder? If not, spiking yourself with carbs first thing in the morning is not a good thing. Now if you go lifting for an hour or run at least 5 miles right after it, then yeah, go for it.
Nope not bodybuilder... was a football player but now I'm having a break from that for a shoulders sake... So just the gym 5 days/week and some running.
Total kcal/day right now is as low as 2000-2500 so it's not huge quantities of carbs we're talking about, considering the protein makes for about 800-1000 kcal/day alone, and then fat does a couple of hundred too.
Carbs are good for replenishing after a long night with no meals. during the day I have something every 2 or 3 hours... so it's small portions all the way.
Cutting down after 3 years of pretty constant bulking for football... Figured i had about 30 lbs to lose, 12 are gone so far... but those are the first and easy ones... now comes the hard part.
