Its very hard to go low sodium in chain restaurants where a lot of the food is precooked or prepackaged. If you have other restaurants that are not chains you can go to you will fare much better.
Very true. I gotta bite my tongue when I see ppl salt their pizza -
I also use low sodium soy sauce - very sparingly too. I sure wish the Chinese restaurants would use it but for whatever reason, they don't. I use the low sodium chicken broth also when making eggdrop soup but again, I wish they'd use it in the Chinese restaurants, it does make a difference.
Even the Progresso heart healthy and low sodium soups arent that low in sodium but I guess they're somewhat lower which is good.
Am going to check the earlier link on Mrs Dash low-salt spices, I bought quite a few when we moved but haven't used them much at all, getting lazy and too used to eating bland food

I get steamed chick or shrimp with veggies at my local chinese place. I tell them to keep the sauce out of it. But I can still taste a slight bit of salt and figure they must throw it in while steaming it. On the other hand, I don't eat the salt ladden sauce so I am a bit ahead of the game.
You really are ahead of the game and what you said makes perfect sense. At one of the last WW meetings I went to, they mentioned it's a good idea to have in mind what you want to order before even going into the restaurant, that way you're not as likely to be tempted by different dishes are on the menu (human nature, some of those food photos are great - and very tempting). Anyway, thx for the reminder (and I like chick/shrimp and veggies so that would work well w/ me too)

I do not think that salt really affects your dieting or help anyhow in getting your fat reduced. I am a high salt consumer and my stomach and body is perfectly fit.
Sodium consumption has nothing to do with fat or fitness. The only way that it affects weight is by causing some people to retain fluid. Most healthy people will eliminate excess sodium and water, primarily via the kidneys.
For people with problems like high blood pressure or congestive heart failure, excess salt can lead to retention of the excess fluid, making it harder for the heart to work properly and leading to swelling, especially of the feet and legs.

You say that now but later in life that all could change. My SIL overly salts everything she cooks,my MIL has had to tell her to cut back because my MIL does not use much salt.
