I would phrase that a little differently: "...raising questions of whether any weight loss drug can be shown to be both safe and effective." The wording in the OP makes it sound as if there is some kind of prejudice or bias or ideological opposistion to weight loss drugs within the FDA.

We Americans are an impatient people. We want a magic pill which will solve all our problems instantly. A healthy diet and regular exercise have so many benefits besides just weight loss, but alas, those require long-term commitment and self-discipline.

these drugs will fail also. Maybe not with the FDA but for the reasons that they work in the brain. We need a drug that reallly works on a hormonal level or something with controling leptin/ghrehlin. THis would be a better route in my opinion. This brain stuff has tolerance, and really does not work. I have taken topamax for binge eating and it helped but it was no miracle weight loss drug, it helped with bulimia but basically it was not the end all to end all. I had to work hard at it. The brain stuff works great in the beginning but always after time fizzels out. Its just not the answer. I dont have the answer but the old fashion way, eat healthy , small step and over long period of time the weight slowly comes off!

They still haven't found anything that works as good as the EC stack, which is extremely affordable and available OTC in most states.
