Most recommended portion sizes are fine for me once I understand what the recommendation is. Some are even generous, IMO. One major exception, as you've noted, is pasta. That's just ridiculous and I probably eat twice the recommended amount of pasta per serving.

Why would I want to drink aloe vera gel?

Exactly - what is the point?

I knew a young women (in her 20's) who was diagnosed with cancer....in an effort to "get healthy" she started drinking aloe vera juice - she was incredibly allergic to it - broke out in an ugly itchy rash all over her body and gave her non-stop stomach issues. I would not just "start drinking" anything without doing a lot of research first and checking with my doctor (who supports homeopathic ways).

There are lots of potential dangers associated with drinking aloe vera juice:

I loved pasta, steaks...and "boy food" That would be spicy buffalo wings, bacon-cheddar potato skins, pizza, beer, good burgers, fried chicken. Man, didn't let to many chances get by me...and I just couldn't do it anymore. I was digging myself a nutritional hole at middle age that I feared I would be unable to escape, so I cut all that out.

Cream cheese, mayo, on white bread, with Fresca. A lot of them. As snacks. I guess Fresca, being a diet drink, made it Ok....uh..i DONT think so.

Bags of Doritos with a tub of sour cream to dip them in.

Eating out a lot, including the big appetizers and dessert (places that served large portions)

A lot of beer. And for weekends, port wine.

pizza...pepperoni, cheese, mushrooms, olives...yum....

need I go on?

Pasta, bread, chips, fast food, food heavy in butter, sugared coffee drinks and 2 glasses of wine almost every night. I used absolutely no portion control. I exercised but it didn't matter because my eating habits were crap. After a major surgery back in May, I couldn't eat very many foods. Many of the ones I liked before just didn't taste good anymore or severely upset my stomach. For a time I couldn't digest dairy or meat so I ate a strict vegetarian diet for a while. Unfortunately that made my sugars spin completely out of control. Now my diet still isn't the healthiest. I usually drink a Glucose Control Boost for breakfast. If I have time I'll make something low carb. I carry protein bars in my purse because I'm on the go and usually eat those for lunch. Dinner I'll make at home and eat and that I'll portion control. My A1C is finally almost normal compared to the outrageous number it was before but I probably don't get enough calories during the day.
