I crave junk food and sugary treats, a lot, but mostly when I am bored or depressed. So does this make a connection then between emotional eating and sugar cravings. I found some info online at Kristen Kancler's website, she is a nutrition expert, that really makes me believe this is actually a fact. What do you think?
I don't know but since you know that you turn to sweets when you are feeling depressed or bored what are some healthier ways to cope? For example call a friend or take up a hobby? If you feel you suffer from depression have you thought of seeing a therapist or psychiatrist? This could be an issue to bring up emotional eating.
Unfortunately with no health insurance seeking that sort of assistance is out of the question. However, I do have plenty of hobbies, which often distract me from boredom... but I still seem to be drawn to snacking while crafting!
What about looking into OA meetings? I think coping techniques taking time to work. If you feel drawn to snacking when you are doing the hobby how about a nutritious snack? Also you may want to look at your diet on a whole. If you are getting too hungry that can lead to cravings as well.
Daniella's on the right track. Emotional eating is sort of a myth; The body needs a certain amount of calories....and as far as the body's concerned, more the better. More energy - more life.C ravings are simply the body telling you it needs more of something. And the body prefers carbs (just get it from whole foods)
Emotional eating is seen as a problem only because people are afraid of eating too much(because they eat junk). But these 2 people in the videos believe in eating as much as they can. And their thin-ness shows - just like animals in nature - eating all you want doesn't make you fat.

I know this is not why you posted this but I watched one of her videos and she ate 51 bananas in a day. I cant even imagine the stomach ache though I know she probably worked up to that over time. The fruit diet is odd to me. I think for most people finding balance where all foods are incorporated in moderation unless of course you are allergic.
Bananas have become my new answer to craving. I eat them by themselves, use them to flavor my rice chex, and I freeze them and toss them in my fruit smoothies!!!!
So we have to start with the fact that sugar is addictive flat out. Addictive substances (or activities) provide immediate reward for effort. Sounds like sugar. Again this goes back to when calories were precious and sweet food did (and does) provide more bang for the effort putting in to get it. Our bodies are built to crave sugar. You can add in that food in over abundance is a drug and we are medicating ourselves with it. I mean why not? It fills the hole. So you fix it by filling the hole with something else. Passion for something that makes you forget the junk is a good thing here. Also it's good to know (hasn't worked for me) that refined sugar, or honey, except in small occasional amounts is not good for your body. We all know about diabetes but add in all associated cardiovascular diseases, obesity, and associated cancers.
I think if you're trying to get away from sugar--enough to break the addiction I mean--it would be best to leave the bananas alone. At least for awhile.
