Kind of paints a different picture than what people want us to believe when they talk about socio-economic status and food huh. You don't have to be wealthy to stay in shape. But to be honest I can buy a lot better/healthier food than what a lot of people spend on fast food. You just can't be afraid to cook. This article rather debunks the food desert rants because even if you only have these food options you can still lose weight.

I don't know if I'd go that far. I mean yeah, anyone can go for a walk and try to stay in shape. But most people, if they rely on McDonald's and the like, they're going to go over on their calories and not lose weight, but gain. Healthy foods like veggies and lean meats are still the way to go to be at a good weight, healthy and "in shape."
Just because you lose weight doesn't make you healthy. I can lose weight on an all-Snickers diet so long as I burn more calories than I eat. Weight loss really isn't that complicated when you look at it from a basic physics/math standpoint.
I read the more detailed bit on another site. Fellow was in poor shape prior to the experiment. Imagine how much he would have lost and his resulting physical condition if he ate healthy, tracked TDEE and exercised within the same six month time frame.
I see he is plugging his book. Too bad the media does not do a segment comparing different approaches to losing weight including the best return on effort.
Here is a sample of one of his daily meal plans:
Breakfast
Minute Maid OJ
Sausage Burrito
Fruit and Maple Oatmeal
Lunch
Fruit and Yogurt Parfait
Premium Southwest Salad
Apple Slices
Dinner
Large Diet Coke
Premium Grilled Chicken Classic Sandwich
Hot Fudge Sundae
Small Fries
Do not know about you folk but greasy food makes me gag. So do sugary ones.
This is just dumb. I eat healthy on a very tight budget. Also, I care more about what I put into my body than just number of calories. Would never eat that crappy diet.
