So I noticed times When i do very bad on my diet from Friday to Sunday I'll gain let's say 3 lbs when I weigh myself Monday morning. So by next Friday with a steady diet and exercise I am back to my original weight. How come it's harder to lose the original weight and not the weight I gained over the weekend? I mean I know if I cut my calorie intake, exercise more, I could shed more pounds. Keeping my same routine I do fine dropping the weight gained over the weekend, I just wished that I dropped that much weight every week when I am good, and not just half a pound.

true weight loss is based on an average over a period of time, not by the day or even by the week. the body doesn't have to drop a pound every single week. you may have some weeks when you lose, "gain", or remain the same. Progress is determined over time. i put gain in quotes because sudden weight gain over the course of one day is usually water. that is why it is "lost" fairly quickly as well. fat loss is best determined over the course of a week or weeks. when you're going off the rails, you're probably gaining a lot of water weight.

Water weight.

It's pretty difficult to "do bad" and gain three pounds in two days. That's severe eating disorder style "doing bad." Not that it's impossible to eat 7,000 calories a day for two days but it isn't easy. Absent some sort of compulsive overeating/binge eating disorder though it's just water. Water weight is very easy to lose. Just stop drinking and eating water foods and it goes away. If it's retention related to sodium intake, cut the sodium and the body stops trying to hold onto excess water and you take a couple trips to drain the lizard and there it goes. There's also the stuff in your digestive tract. If you weigh yourself after dropping a behemoth of a deuce it'll swing your weight by maybe two pounds.

This. And water weight is caused by much more than excess sodium. Going heavy on the carbs will cause many people to hold water weight as well.
