Plain white rice is not a good choice when you're trying to lose weight.
Brown rice is better, but what rice is not bad. Farro, barley, bulgar and quinoa are excellent choices for grains. Chicken thighs are even cheaper than breasts, much better tasting too. They are fattier, but if you get rid of the skin they are okay.

Thighs have become the same price as breasts now, I still buy them, but miss the bargain days.

Nothing wrong with rice. It has 160 calories per 3/4 cup and IMHO tastes better than brown. Asians eat tons of white rice and they're not fat. Pair the rice with beans for an even better, filling boost.

White rice offers little in the way of nutrition. A small amount of protein and that is about it. The other nutrients are negligible. As far as taste, they are totally tasteless. You have to add the flavors to it. It is a perfect example of empty calories. Beans are a different story and a vegetarian staple for their protein content.

As far as eating cheap(er), the only thing that gets expensive is buying organic. That DOES cost more but may be worth it. How much is your health worth? I do not buy everything organic but probably should. I do recommend you get organic fruits, especially berries and greens like lettuce and spinach.

Asia eats a ton of white rice. They do not have an obesity epidemic either. Its not the evil you make it out to be.

I didn't demonize it, I said that rice is not nutritious and I proved that. Who cares if you get fat or not if it's not good for you and Asians (most) do not get fat because they are active. They eat rice a lot because it's their staple and it's cheap. Most live in poverty too. I stand by what I said, look it up if you don't believe me. No flavor and no nutrition was my point. That's not to say it can't be made to taste good if you add a bunch of stuff to it.

Who cares man...there's still nothing wrong with eating white rice. I don't eat beans with anything else but rice. And I still prefer jasmine and basmati to brown rice.

I really don't know why I am arguing about this. Grains are bad period. There is nothing you get from grains that you cannot get from other foods. Absolutely nothing. Avoid grains, that is my advice. If you want to eat rice eat it all you want and whatever kind you want. Yes, it's cheap and that is what the thread is about. Healthy? No, Cheap? Yes

We are arguing with you because there is nothing wrong with rice and if someone is on a budget rice is a good choice.
Grains are very good for you. Some obviously are more nutritious for you. They provide fiber, nutrients and vitamins and should not be avoided. Stop the insanity.
