caloric intake for someone who burns 400-500 cals 5-6 days per week and is trying to lose weight?
Let's remember that, depending on our weight, an adult male will burn around 1200 calories a day just sitting around and breathing. So if we add your 500, we have a total of 1700 kcals burned.
The math is easy: you have to intake less than that to lose weight!
But also remember, your body learns to adapt to exercise and eventually with even your wt being the same you will burn less calories doing that activity. Its why they suggest to switch it up every once in awhile.
Bare bones basics of calorie rules are males never under 1500 and females never under 1200.
Eat that level and workout = wt loss (unless you have a health issue)
But if you are on the heavier side [ more than 200-220 (male or female)] those calorie counts can be too low. The body can slow loss if the cuts are over 1000 calories. Anyone that does distance running needs to eat a lot too.

For anyone with an iPhone, there is a nifty app called "Lose It!" that does all the calculating for you. You just enter your daily food and exercise. I have found it to be very accurate and helpful. In order for me to lose 1 lb per week, it tells me to keep my calorie intake at 1294 per day. Any exercising I do add to the caloric maximum. I love this app and have lost more since using it than when I was tracking on my own!!!
