I was just reading through the low sodium thread.
Take the lower sodium soups for instance...or even making it yourself homemade...what type of seasoning out there actually makes it taste good?! I do like lemon juice, and lime too (yummi) and basalmic vinegar but my husband does not....any suggestions?!

I use a pepper grinder with the mix of pepper (black, pink, white, green) and apply that generously. Then add some other herbs & spices, depending on what you are having and what you like. My base for most savory dishes is lots of ground pepper and onion powder (not onion salt!), a little garlic powder, plus some fresh thyme. If I am out of fresh thyme I use a dry Italian herb mix.

I use various seasonings but, to be honest, your body replaces taste buds daily and you adjust! Just give it some time. Now I can't enjoy foods with high sodium.

Great suggestions! NU-SALT is another option, and does dissolve well in soups, but doesn't really taste like salt either.

The saddest part of low-salt eating is that so many med/high sodium foods will NEVER taste quite as good as the "regular" versions, no matter what you try. Of course, this is a matter of personal taste, but I will stand by my statement. But, like GN said, you do adjust somewhat, and over time you will loose a lot of your taste for salt.

One of the dishes I think can come closest to matching it's "regular" counterpart is chili, esp if you like it spicy.

Also, please keep checking the LOW SODIUM THREAD for more info, ideas and discussions, all welcome!

You do get used to it. I do like salt but have cut back from what I used to do (salt EVERYTHING.lol)
Every once in awhile I will try to have a extra salty item and it can be too salty. But I noticed using all that salt blocked out a lot of flavor in foods. Olive oil seems to bring out flavor for me now. Before when I was a salt user, it did not taste like it did at all. Very strange!
