Most of the dogs I get are usually health comprimised when they come to me (all rescues) Because they associate a vet visit with getting poked and prodded they are usually either fearful or aggressive when we first go to the vets. We have a procedure though that gets them through it in a few visits. I supply the vet with a bag of treats and a standing rule. Everytime someone walks in the room, the dog gets a treat from them. Doesn't matter if the vet tech is in and out 5 times -each and every time a treat is given. Same thing when the vet comes in. All my dogs end up LOVING the vet office!
I tried to rep you but I've got to spread the love around a bit first. I'm not repping you for loving the Artie Antics (but thanks! ) but for this fabulous trick! Artie doesn't usually take treats in the vet's office -- only after he's back in the waiting room and knows that it's OVER! -- but I'm going to ask them to try it with his super-duper chicken treats, if for no other reason but to make THEIR life easier to deal with the monster.

Yup - make it a treat that they just can't resist. With Samantha, we had to use boiled chicken at first. (I brought it in fresh with me when we arrived). So far its worked for every dog that I've had
My big black lab/shepherd mix who loves everyone and who is scared of nothing doesnt really care for the vet's office. The floor is very smooth hardwood and he cant seem to walk on it very well and it must be the smell of the medicine or other dogs because he always tries to go back out the door. Once the Tech comes to get him and makes a big deal over him he does O.K. but is still nervous enough he wont eat his treats she gives him(and at home that is unheard of). I do remember when we left him there over night when he got fixed, he was probably about 5 months old and he wouldnt come out of the kennel and I had to go back and get him. I think that he had urinated in his kennel and he felt so bad or he remembered what happened the last time he went with the tech so he was going to wait there until mommy came and got him LOL.
Sydney loved going to our new vet. And I love our new vet too. He has such a great bedside manner...doesn't come off as cold and right down to business like our last vet..instead he sat right on the floor and pulled Sydney in his lap to give him treats and get to know him. Now, as far as the poking and prodding, Sydney clearly didnt enjoy that but stayed still the whole time and as soon as it was over his butt was back to wiggling like crazy and licking the vet and vet tech
Macie is a Golden Retriever.....pretty much anything that involves a car-ride and attention is a good thing in her mind. Besides, the vet's office has cookies - so in her mind I'm guessing the thought process is: car ride=good, attention=good, reason for visit= annoying, more attention=good, cookies=good, another car ride= good....so "good" wins.

Poor baby. Bella will be getting fixed soon. Her B-day is August 16 so it will be after that. I hope it doesn't change her mind about the vets office.
I wish Bella liked cats. She acts like she wants to play with CW (our cat) but CW doesn't want anything to do with her.
CW is just being stubborn. I say put both on a leash and make them be friends! Ok, maybe that's a bad idea but I think it's the cat who doesn't like Bella not the other way around!
At our old apartment, a woman used to walk her cat on a leash. She said all the dogs barked and lunged at it and PC was the only dog she ever met that could get her cat on its back and licked it. He also likes rabbits. Such a strange dog. Luckily, we haven't come across a rattlesnake yet since we rarely go in the canyons. I'd hate to see him try to be friends with one of those!

Bella loves the car ride also. If I'm cutting grass and need to move the car I have to let her jump in the back seat or she won't move out of the way. Bella in, move car, Bella out and she is happy as can be.
