I just received this from a friend from a Animal Rescue Org..
Please read below...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you have seen the tv ads for Bark Off don't get ripped off like I was
online it said order one for $10 plus 6.9 s/h and a second free one for just s/h of 8.99
I entered all credit card info and when i tried to go to the next page to review order and see total; it wouldn't take me
I tried again
then I called customer service; on hold; no answer
I called customer service the next day to cancel and they said order wasn't in the system yet so call back tomorrow; when I called back no answer
now I got an email that it has been shipped
I was charged @20 for 2 barkoffs and $28 SHIPPING!!!
I am contacting my charge company to disput this
PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT THIS COMPANY; ORDERS ARE HANDLED BY A BIG CALL CE
it's a device that makes a sound that humans can't hear but dogs can. it's supposed to deter the dogs from barking. it's basically an aversive - the sound is unpleasant to the dogs so they stop doing what they're doing. those mail order things are often shady in various ways - hidden charges, making it look like like you're ordering one thing when you're really ordering a subscription, etc. so i'm not surprised that this product is the same way.
So, is it the product that is bad (as in ineffective) or the company that sells it?
Actually, that price is correct. If you read the fine print on their site, you only select 1 barkoff and will be sent 2 (one of those is free). If your friend selected 2, she will be sent 4 total (2 purchased, 2 free). That means $20 for the 2 barkoffs she ordered, plus 2 free ones. And now, the shipping is $10/barkoff, so $20 shipping plus whatever the free ones cost to ship. The company states this explicitly, your friend just didn't read the fine print.
Yes, be wary of any offer that says you get one free, just pay additional shipping. I've read a lot of complaints on the internet. And, I'm highly skeptical that this thing works anyway.
Still doesn't answer the 'effectiveness' question.
I saw the ad for the first time last night. I wasn't the least bit impressed. More Billy Mayes style garbage.
