Hi all.

What is the safest/best way to get our family pet- 2 year old Dog. From Nevada to the east coast? Some say on the airplane. Others say thats risky.''

What have you guys done in this situation?

Thank You.

I would say it depends. If you are driving yourself and there is room, the safest/best way is to take your dog with you. If there is no room in the car, or you are flying, then I would suggest Continental Airlines Petsafe program. First and hard/fast rule I always use is that it must be a non-stop flight. Its not inexpensive though. You can get details & pricing at the Continental Website.

I have never wanted to have my dogs on a plane. We moved cross country several times. We just drove.

I would say if the dog is small enough to go in-cabin, by airplane. I am not one for dogs traveling in the cargo area, either my dogs go in-cabin or I drive with them.

Thousands of dogs travel in-cabin every year, I know, but I have heard enough stories not to want to take any chances.

But that is just my opinion.

He's a 38 lb Wheaton Terrier. We were planning on using a moving company for our belongings, not sure how to get our Dog their in one piece.

Check out petairways.com. It is a pet only airline and they fly in the main cabin. I've never used them but it sounds good.

I have always had small dogs but I would consider learning more about petairways too. I guess they might be quite careful about transporting pets.

I did not really understand the moving company idea.

I love Wheaton Terriers!!

I would NEVER-EVER fly our dogs. I would drive them myself personally. Otherwise they don't go. Our dogs are with us...always. No exceptions.
