I have long haired Chihuahua who's to be two years soon. I've always had a problem brushing teeth for her. I've tried many many different methods on how to clean her teeth with toothpaste but she's so finicky! Any suggestion? How did you get your pup to not be bothered when it's time to clean? Thanks!

Ok good, now are you using a toothbrush? If so get a finger brush it slips on your finger and you can gently rub it along the tooth and the gum line. Or you can use a wash cloth. I know it can be difficult to brush the teeth but it just takes alot of patience. My vet recommended that I take a dab of toothpaste and just let the pup lick it off my finger he told me the enzymes in the paste would still do the job without the battle to actually brush.

My dog just runs away or goes shy when she smells the certain paste I use. Is there a brand you'd recommend?

Try the meat flavored paste. There is chicken flavored and beef. If you have tried these and still no luck talk to your vet and see if he/she can recommend another method. There are so many experienced pet lovers here on CD I am sure someone can come up with ideas.

I have rubber gloved with bristles and I put chicken flavored paste on the gloves. Mine still don't like it, but I figure it's better than nothing. Oh, if I pretend like I am eating it first, it interests my dogs more!
