DH and I got an "offer we couldn't refuse" on our house about 10 days ago. It wasn't even on the market and its a loooong story on how we sold it when it wasn't even listed for sale. We close on March 15th. Actually found a new house this weekend and with any luck should be under contract today on that one. Now the problem....... we wouldn't be able to close on the new house until April 1st at the earliest. So it looks like we are going to be stuck in temporary housing for a couple weeks at best. We are torn between having the dogs stay with us at an "extended stay" type hotel or whether it would be better to just board them for that time.

Has anyone here ever stayed at one of these type hotels for a two week stretch (or longer) with multiple dogs? If so ....would you do it again????

We would obviously prefer to keep everyone together but I worry about the logistics not to mention the cabin fever that could set in with 3 dogs and 2 humans in one room for an extended stay!

Thanks!

My husband works for hotels so when we move we typically live on property for a few weeks until we find a new house. Yes there is some cabin fever, the key for us is green space. I look for a place where we can get out of the room and take a good walk and get some fresh air.

There may be some difficulty finding a place that will accept 3 dogs. Not sure if there are any VRBO rentals in your area, you might be able to get a house for a few weeks and have some additional space.

How exciting!!!! Our house is going on the market next month -- I hope we have as easy a time of it as you did. Well, no, we couldn't, because your house hadn't even hit the market! Lucky!

I've got no concrete advice for you except that boarding Artie would be much more stressful for him than having to deal with an upheaval of his routine for a few weeks. I'd rather put him through the routine change and lack of running space -- so that he knows that at least I'm with him through it -- than board him.

Good luck! No matter how you deal with it, I'm sure everything will be fine once you settle into your new home.

Thanks Dawn - this all came at us really fast and unexpected. We are selling back to the original owners of this house. They are moving back to Houston and really want their home back! Who am I to argue? They are paying us a good price and we can now move to our "target neighborhood". New neighborhood has big trees, wide, quiet roads with good sidewalks and parks and not a cookie cutter house in sight! I just worry about trying to stuff 3 dogs in an extended stay play for a couple weeks.

Unless your dogs are stressed out in new situations then I don't see a problem with it. Other then maybe finding a place that will take 3 dogs. You could always take them with you and board them later if it doesn't work out.

We've been RVing for close to 4 years with 2 dogs, started out with a 100lb GSD and they haven't had any issues with it.

Actually, we went from a house that was a little over 3,000 sqft to an RV and it didn't seem to phase them one bit.

I think dogs would be better off with you even in cramped quarters rather in boarding situation. Just tell hotel folks you have 2 dogs and never have all 3 together. that should work. good walks and exercise will keep everybody happy and of course you wouldn't want to leave them alone in the hotel since they might get scared or lonely and disturb other guests.

I have a nice size house w/ lots of space for my several dogs, yet they all prefer to congregate in the bedroom w/ us. I'd choose the motel if I were you.

Congrats! Is there a chance the buyers (previous owners) will rent the house to you for two weeks? It might not hurt to ask and could make things a lot easier, at least for you and your dogs.

Unfortunately they are moving here from the NE and need to get in due to the husband's work schedule. They are coming with 3 teenages. I'm not mean enough to even suggest 2 parents and 3 teens share one hotel room for 2 weeks
