My cocker checks the tomatos every time he gets near them and knows which ones are blood red.
I have them all in pots and where he has to be out of the main yard to get them..Last summer when they were in the ground he get us up in the middle of the night and go pick a snack...Its just to funny.

I think it's the leaves and stems of the tomatoes, the green parts of the plant, that are poisonous. Not unripe tomatoes.
I had a dog who loved homegrown tomatoes but if you gave her a bite of one of those worthless wintertime grocery store tomatoes, she'd just let it fall out of her mouth onto the floor.
My labrador has always eaten the tomatos from our garden. He also stands on the porch and eats crabapples from our crabapple tree in the fall.
We installed a cheap wire fence to separate the garden area of the yard from the dogs.
Plus, it's healthier for us to keep them away from the garden. We don't want them doing their business near it.
