my bros two year old dog died tonight.
He had a bloody vomit episode about a year ago and they visited the emergency vet and got him all fixed up.
He had another episode last night and died while they were away.
They are heartbroken as this was totally unexpected.
my bro said the first time he had a problem he was amazed by the amount of blood on the floor.
What could this have been?
he's a siberian husky. He got plenty of outdoors time and was only in a cage during work hours
I know you all are not docs but just wanted some input
nope.
I know thats pretty bland a explanation but thats all I know
They had him on meds and were keeping him hydrated when it happened the first time.
I wonder if he's aways had a problem. I've always thought he was weird but wrote it off as a breed I'm not use too.
he did snap a few times at my bro and his wife. He lunged at them, but that could just be dominant dog stuff.
I don't know exactly, but I do know that there are several reasons that people die like this - blood vessels that burst in the esophagus, cancers, clotting problems...
The good news is that is is often a sudden, painless event
Agree with Pinetreelover. Sounds like blood vessels busted in her digestive system. It is usually caused by a genetic defect. Sometime cancer cell can cause it too (invaded blood vessels). Very Sorry for your loss. There are so many diseases in this world. With the advancement of medical technology, there are still so many things we don't know and can't find a cure. Sad. But life has to go on.
So sorry for your brother and his wife. Such a young dog too. I don't think it it is related to his breed, but sounds like a serious condition that just got worse. Hoping for peace, warmth, and God's love to you all.
Did they have a ecropsy done? As the others said could be lots of reasons...including diet! Watched a dog die very painfully frome eating a brillo pad, another from insulation!
It could be anything from ulcers, esophageal/gastric cancer, esophageal varices (from parasites), Boerhaave's, Nasopharyngeal tumor (less likely), or a vascular malformation (less likely).
see thats why I post! You guys have no problem throwing ideas.
I'm kinda leaning towards genetic defect too.
He was beautiful and fun but lacked doggie skills no matter ho much he played w/ our dogs.
But he's a husky and they are all collie breeds. They greet from the side and he slaps you in the face w/ his paw.
I always had a problem w/ him because I couldn't read his eyes or body language. I can tell by Codys eyes what mood he's in ...maybe its just me tho.
I feel bad for them because it was unexpected and he was so young. ...barely two years.
I don't know what test they had done. Thanks so much everyone! I know its limited info. but I guess I was just feeling for how common it is.
HAppy Easter!

If he got this dog from a reputable breeder, I would think it would be good of them to inform the breeder of what happened. They may want to know.
