Its extremely sad to see how selfish human beings can become
Why cant India have Dog shelters for stray dogs. Instead of killing dogs,
they can be made suitable for adoptions. Dogs are wonderful friends.
I have one pet(American Eskimo). He is my best friend
Dogs are extremely emotional beings - how can anyone eat them!!!
And how can anyone support this idea?

I can.

I recall (now many years ago) when we lived in CT, a chinese restaurant was closed down because inspectors found cats in the freezer. Ever since then, I'm careful what I order in Asian restaurants. I need to be able to recognize it after it's prepared - like chicken wings. "no moo-goo-pai-pan-everything-mixed-together" for me, thank you.

This thread also reminds me that not so very long ago Burlington Coat factory was selling coats with canine fur collars. When that came to light, there was such an outcry!
They had a hard time recovering from that. They said they hadn't known the source of the fur. I know that fur origin is usually labeled, but the way things are going, who's to know if the label is true or not? I don't shop there *ever* and that's one of the reasons.

Yes. Some Chinese markets in China are selling the dogs for food. They killed the dog in front of other dogs in cage. It is very sad!!! My friend emailed me the article. I can't stand to see the photo. I deleted it very fast. One bright sign is that in that article, a Chinese lady who is a dog lover was trying to buy all the dogs so she can save them. But she is not wealthy and how many can she save? Furthermore, the government wouldn't allow her to have too many dogs. Another good sign in the article is that local government has declared it illegal to sell dogs for meat. But someone is still doing it. I also notice the dog rescue organization in China started to gain ground in the news. I hope this trend will continue.

You know that wouldn't happen because the euthanizing chemicals would be in the soup. sad, and icky.

I'm not going to read that article It's really sad and disgusting the way animals are treated in some other countries. We have an "issue" here with factory farming, but I really don't think that compares to what goes on in other places.

In China, they confiscate dogs from their owners and beat them to death in the street - that's their idea on how to control rabies. I will never get the picture out of my mind where this poor woman was on her knees crying and praying as they were pulling her dog away from her to beat him to death with clubs....it's one of the saddest things I've ever seen.

What they do to bears to collect their bile will give you nightmares. How they keep the dogs and cats at the markets is enough to make anyone with even an ounce of compassion in their souls sick and angry.

It's not right, I don't care what country it is, cats and dogs have been bred to be companions. To treat them so brutally is depraved, IMO.

And here we are holding the Olympics in China and outsourcing jobs to India. We import billions of dollars of goods from China, including dog/cat food and toys...while they use these same animals as food and treat them worst than we treat vermin. Is it any wonder there's no standards for quality there? Why would there be?

I've always avoided buying anything the dog would eat, chew on or play with that was made in China, but with all the recalls in recent months, I'm even beginning to question the safety of other products - I saw some nice looking dishes the other day, and they were made in China (as was most of the stuff in the store, I discovered) and I considered whether there might be lead in the glaze on those dishes. I recall that years ago when we started getting lots of dishes from other countries there was great concern about lead in the glaze. I wonder if anybody is watching products besides pet foods and toys.
I try as much as possible not to buy anything "made in China", but it's really hard...

It's very difficult to find things not made in China. I did find a website that lists other websites where everything is made in the USA, but you have to order everything online. American Made Products and/or Services Made in USA And added plus is it seems many items are also cruelty free.

The only American made item I've been able to find in stores is Nylabones.

As I have been living in South Korea for the past several years, I can tell you that South Korea has very strict rules about the importation of animals and certainly about their sources for food. Korea has laws about pet abandonment that the US should consider adopting. Yes, in Korea there is a market for dog meat. The animals are breed especially for the purpose, just like in the States, there are farms which breed animals for specific purposes. I have never been offered dog soup and as a female probably never will be.
