Finally a good outcome between a cop and a pit bull.
Arlington Police Department
This morning, Sgt. Gary Carter responded to an alarm call in the 300 block of N. East Street (North Arlington) when a few citizens also reported they were being followed by this pit bull. Sgt. Carter immediately started interacting with the dog and determined it was extremely friendly. He was able to coax the furry friend into the patrol car so we can try and locate the owner. The poor dog appeared to be lost and thirsty. If you know this four-legged friend, please contact Animal Services at 817-459-5898. Thank you Sgt Carter for going to the extra mile!
I like the fact that the officer had an open mind. Any stray dog can be scared enough to be mean. And a lot of dogs (in my limited experience) don't like uniforms.
Fortunately, the police in most of the towns near me routinely take pit bulls to animal control or other shelters for adoption. But there's an update to this story that makes it extra special. The dog got out again, and as often happens with escape artists, the owner got tired of the whole thing and didn't want him back. Maybe you can guess what happened next.
An extraordinary man and cop. Makes me proud to know there are still some cops like this and police departments with proper training. Hope Chance takes advantage of this second chance.
