LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — A man captured neighborhood cats and kittens and fed them live to his pit bulls, authorities said Thursday. Tye Hilmo, 21, was charged Thursday with aggravated cruelty to animals.

Hilmo was already in jail on drug, firearm and probation violation charges, Gwinnett County sheriff's spokeswoman Stacey Bourbonnais said.

The new warrant charges that Hilmo "did give injured live cats and kittens to his pit bull dogs and let the pit bulls kill the already injured cats and kittens. Hilmo would capture and injure neighborhood cats for this purpose."

Wow! He needs to be locked up for the rest of his life! Now, those are "pit bulls" that would go around killing other people's pets if they were to get loose! You do NOT teach an animal to go around killing and eating other animals! Not only is it sick and just horrible all around, it's dangerous to the animals in the area because if those dogs get out and they are use to killing and eating other animals, what do you think they will do to any animal they see walking around?!

The reason some "pit bulls" do end up attacking or even killing people and other animals when they get loose is because of people like this! The "pit bull" breeds, American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers and Staffordshire Bull Terriers, do tend to be animal aggressive because they were originally bred to bull bait and dog fight, but they were never bred for human aggression or guarding behavior; generally they only will attack if they perceive an immediate threat to their masters or families rather than seeing every person as an intruder upon their territory. They were originally bred against human aggression because in the pit fighting days the handlers had to be able to handle their dogs as well as treat their wounds, and if necessary, quickly pull the dog out of a fight for various reasons. Any dog that did show the slightest sign of human aggression in that day was 'culled', and therefore, not allowed to carry on its bloodline. For that reason stable examples of the breed(s) are generally not suitable as guard dogs. By no means are these dogs people-haters or people-eaters. Their natural aggressive tendencies are towards other dogs and animals, not people. However if they are properly socialized they will not even be aggressive with them! These breeds are not right for everyone, but a minimum of proper training will produce a tranquil, friendly dog. If a "pit bull" is animal aggressive that means it was either poorly bred or it doesn't have a good, responsible owner. If a "pit bull" is human aggressive, something is seriously wrong! A human aggressive "pit bull" is either very poorly bred and not trained and socialized at all or it has been abused, neglected, tortured and specifically trained to be mean. These breeds are not naturally mean dogs, they are strong, smart, determined, loyal and intimidating to look at, so they tend to attract the wrong people, like this moron that's feeding cats to his dogs! Our three APBTs play with our neighbors two cats like they are one of them! Well, they try to.. lol! The cats aren't really having it most of the time. They play with other dogs and puppies, other adults and children, they really are friendly to pretty much everyone and everything that is friendly to them! The would probably kill a bird or a squirrel, if they could ever catch it, but that' way different from a dog, a cat or a person. I think just about any dog would go after a bird or a squirrel! lol! Anyway, my point is, these are not naturally mean dogs, they are not anymore naturally mean than other breeds! These breeds just happen to attract the wrong kind of people. People that support backyard breeders, abuse, neglect, torture their dogs and train their dogs to be mean and fight! I grantee these dogs would not choose owners like that if they had a choice! These are just the unlucky breeds that end up with sick people like that!

It's sad that the media and ignorant people want to make these breeds out to be the bad guy, when it's really the owners! People want to have these breeds banned because they don't ever hear the truth or see what "pit bulls" are really like! All they hear and see is what the media wants them to hear and see! I'm glad that in this story they did say that it was the owner doing this, but in most stories they don't! All you hear about is a vicious man eating "pit bull"! That is not how the breed is! For a "pit bull" to get that way, something is seriously, seriously wrong! I hope more people start to see that it's not the breeds that are the problem. If you read the thread about the letter from the irresponsible owner, you can see that people that make these dogs bad will not care if certain breeds are banned! Most of them are already breaking multiple laws every single day anyway, what's a few new laws going to do for them? They won't care at all! They will either keep their so-called "dangerous" breeds or they will go get a Lab or a Golden, something that is still a powerful breed so they can make them mean! Banning breeds will not fix the problem and I really hope people see that before it's too late!

Instead of banning breeds we need to do things that will actually help!

-Put a stop to leash law violations...Higher penalties for owners who violate the leash law will dissuade more people from slacking on their duties to contain their dog
-Strengthen and enforce penalties for dangerous owners (and their dangerous dogs)
-Crack down on dog fighting
-Strengthen animal abuse laws
-Prevent criminals from owning dogs...The following people should not be allowed to own dogs: drug dealers, human or animal abusers, and anyone convicted of a violent offense (assault, rape, robbery, etc.)
-Regulate breeders
-Fund public spay/neuter initiatives...These programs are important, especially low-cost ones. Unneutered dogs, particularly males, are far more likely to attack a human than either neutered males or spayed females.
-Educate about dog behavior (Stay Dog Bite Free! | The Humane Society of the United States (http://www.hsus.org/pets/pet_care/dog_care/stay_dog_bite_free/ - broken link))
-Encourage responsible dog ownership
-Provide low-cost obedience training classes and behavior help hotlines for dog owners

Until people see this, nothing will change! Criminals will still be getting these breeds and doing horrible things like feeding them cats!

If a Golden Retriever flew, saved 20 people from drowning, and later held a press conference, this Pit Bull story would still lead.

However, if a Pit Bull did the above, it would be identified as a "mixed breed" (or a Golden Retriever) but not be in the lead stories.

I don't think anyone is blaming the dogs - this guy injured the cats (presumably so they could not run/defend themselves) and then fed them to his dogs.

These stories just get worse and worse.
