I was brushing Jack and noticed a small (about 25mm diameter) bald spot on his side. His skin looks very healthy and there are no signs of irritation. I was away for work, so the pups were boarding for the past week and I wasn't able to do their usual brushing. The kennel they stay at is very clean and the people there are very attentive, so I'm confident they would have let me know if it was something that happened there.

It's just the single spot. Any ideas? He is having a major seasonal shed right now, but he's never shed down to his birthday suit. He's not itching the spot (or anywhere else), so it doesn't appear to cause him any concern.

Does his hair come out in what I called poofs on Jazz. When she shed her undercoat it came out in small clumps and you would see them sticking out so I often hand stripped them out or used a rake. I do not recall any bald spots but I guess if a poof was big enough it could leave a bald spot.

Sounds like it could be a "hot spot" but a picture is needed, please...but then he's not itchy or biting it. Well, the pic would be helpful.

Thanks in advance!

Here are two pictures. One so you can see where on him the spot is. The other was supposed to be a close-up of his skin so you could see that there's no dryness, scratches, irritation, etc. But, the light is bad and it doesn't show much...

He is very poofy right now. I'm constantly plucking little poofs, but none of them are this big.

If he is not licking himself there, then I would most certainly get him to the vet.
