I am considering another puppy or youngster in the future. Now I know there's a plethora of breeders to be found online, but if you know of any specific, highly-responsible one who does genetic testing in her line, particularly for the eyes, I'd appreciate it. Not sure if the rules prevent your posting them on the thread, but please pm me if that is more appropriate. GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Your best bet might be to reach out to a regional breed club to see if they have any breeders they can recommend and then do your due diligence from there.

I suggest that you contact the AKC parent club for collies. They will have a puppy placement person who keeps track of who has litters. Anyone who is a member of the parent club for collies will be doing all their testing: eyes, hips, elbows, thyroid, and any other issue that the breed might be known to have.

They should also be doing pedigree research for epilepsy and other issues that do not yet have a genetic marker.

Thanks, Folks!!! The Rough girl I have now (currently age 5) is a rescue I got when she was 12 weeks old. Her puppyhood made my 4 Dobermans' seem like a piece of cake But she turned into an UTTERLY DELIGHTFUL girl who sticks by my current partially paralyzed Dobie (age 11) like nothing I've ever witnessed! Such a noble child, she is.

You want to break that up by bringing in a 3rd dog... I wouldn't. Wait till the Dobie is gone Give them this time together.

Katie, that was my plan - I'm an old hand at this . And the parting from this, my last Dobie, is going to almost kill me. I'm only thinking ahead so that I don't "go under," and because my Collie has been so fabulous that I want to make certain that she has a healthy, wonderful playmate when that time comes. I feel so badly for her since she has not been able to run and play with my Dobie, Luna, for two years she the spinal diagnosis (for which Luna has received continual weekly laser and electro-accupuncture therapy and daily magnetic loop treatments AND a plethora of Chinese herbs). I did not want to go the surgery route this time. She has enjoyed a good two years but could not "play" the way they used to

Thanks for commenting. It helps being on a message board like this. XO
