Default Helpful for dog pooping/peeing inside

I rescued recently a Chi/Terrier mix. He poops inside but I have a doggie door which helps...of course, you will want to have a fenced in yard. The doggie door has been a blessing as he can go outside whenever he pleases. I did not want him in a crate. I tried the no..no... little spank (not hard) and putting him outside...did not help. What DID help (a neighbor told me this trick) is BLACK PEPPER... (I buy mine a the dollar store). If you know spots that your dog seems to go to all the time...sprinkle pepper all around. My dog did not poop where the pepper was after that. Dogs have a keen sense of smell... well you know how strong pepper is. It has not hurt my carpets at all. You may just need to sprinkle every couple days to refresh. This has worked and he is not in a crate. Also I SO recommend a doggie door if you have a fenced in yard... saved my life and you don't have to do the open door, shut door all day.
