"When we arrived in San Francisco to pick up our dogs we drove to the dark cargo terminal and on arrival in the hanger were told simply, “one of them is dead” by the emotionless worker who seemed more interested in his text messages. It took thirty minutes for a supervisor to come to tell us, “it was the two year old.”"

This is why my dog would never be put on a plane. I would have been put in jail if that worker was playing on his phone while telling me this. Probably prison since I would attempted to shove that phone down his throat.

Being in Alaska, we used to fly our dogs with us often. Alaska Air had a good reputation flying pets then and maybe still does. We stopped fly pets years ago, opting for a ferry ride and long drive. With airlines cutting costs, you just don't know how well your pet will be treated.

What a beautiful dog and sad,sad story. That dog was obviously well loved and its understandable why those people are heartbroken...I would be in pieces and enraged.

Heatstroke is usually a terrible death.

These things happen which is why I wouldn't fly my dogs in cargo...I would never be able to forgive myself.

I feel the same as you do..There is no way that I would ever trust anyone with my dogs..even for a 2 hour plane trip..I never trusted anyone with my babies either..my dogs are pretty much like my babies..
