I've read that they are highly intelligent and good guard dogs, plus, we just want a happy companion too! Has anyone here had one, and if so, what is their approximate life span? It's either a Caine or a Dobie......
I have know 2 Cane Corso dogs. They have both been a little too far on the aggressive side for me, both towards people and dogs. And their size coupled with that aggressiveness turns me off. Please do a lot of research before choosing this breed.
I have had Dobies off & on my whole life. That would be my choice. Uber intelligent, loyal, guard dog when it is called for and happy member of the family the rest of the time. My dobies have lived 10-14 years.
First, to Belle, thanks for the correction - don't know where I got an 'I' in Cane???
And to Aconitum, what a great site! I love the part that says, 'Voice activated'.
And finally, to Racelady88, thanks for your advice. They are rather large, and if one would choose to bolt or lunge, I fear I may not be able to hold on! I've just heard so much good about the breed, but common sense must come into play here as well. And you have two - oh my! I'll bet they are exceptionally well behaved.
I heard 1 news report on them years ago...the maulled a lady in an apt highrise somewhere USA!
Just for clarity... Those were Presa Canario/Mastiff mixes and they were trained to be highly aggressive. The attack happened in the Bay Area of California and the owners went to prison.
Thanks...I remember the case & these dogs the poster was talking about looked like the those dogs. Plus I remember they had a strainge breed name.
VERY HAPPY TO BE WRONG!!!
