We used to have a cat who followed us around the block when we walked the dog and he would get tired and cry to be picked up and carried. We made quite a site.
You don't find many legs shorter than the legs on a Papillon and I know a lot of Papillons that do 5 miles every day with their owner. Or rather, the owner does 5 miles and the dog probably does twice that, back and forth.
Depends on the breed. I've read several cases of Bulldogs that died of heat stroke after or while being walked. In fact, way back when - I went to another High Schools Homecoming Parade (I was a cheerleader for my school at the time) and their mascot was a Bulldog. It died during the parade...
Good question. My dog has short skinny legs. I usually don't walk him more than a mile or so. I tell him he has t-rex arms because he has a big barrel shaped chest and little tiny legs lol - I love to watch him walk, he looks like he's trotting.
There is a pack of foxhounds in Britain that has a wire haired dachshund in the pack (named Otto). He runs with the hounds and they send him to earth to chase out any fox that tries burrowing to escape. Short legs, but tough and can go for miles.
Unlike the beautifully trained foxhounds, Otto is naughty and at the parade of hounds, you can hear the Master of the Hounds shouting "Otto, damn it, come!" while the foxhounds are all tightly bunched and galloping as a pack around the Master of the Hounds' horse.
