"Lopez said his wife and three children were so devastated by the loss of their pet that he bought a poodle puppy, named Lex, on Saturday."

I hope that he doesn't let this one out alone. (Sure sounds from the article that the dog was "let out to do its business".) Not that letting a dog out alone merits it being shot- but if it was at the end of a 6 foot leash, idiots like the shooter here might be less likely to take pot shots at the dog. And, unlike humans, dogs can't read signs to "keep off grass".

Sad story.

Oh my, that breaks my heart. My sweet little Maltese is lying by my feet at this very moment, and I can't imagine watching a person shoot such a precious lil creature.

Talk about blaming the victim!

The owner was with the dog. See bolded below.

A 73-year-old Bronx man was arrested for fatally shooting his neighbor’s dog — as the little Maltese’s owner helplessly stood nearby, officials said.

I hope the man gets beat up in jail, raped and then suffers a stroke where he becomes paralyzed until the day he dies.

The dog hobbled back home after it was shot, per the article.

Did the guy drag it back to the house at the end of a leash?

From my reading of the article, he let the dog out off leash and the dog went onto the neighbor's property.

Like I said, not a reason in the world to shoot the dog, but certainly not the mark of a responsible owner. Hope the poodle has better luck.

It should be a learning experience for the owner, but the action was not warranted. It's like blaming a woman for getting raped because she dressed sexy.

Leash is irrelevant. Many people let their dogs outside in their yard without leash while standing nearby. You don't have to be literally right next them. It is not a mark of an irresponsible owner. It's a darn shame the people who never let their dogs have off-leash time, but I guess you have to do that if you don't train your dogs very well, huh?
