I forgot to mention too - rawhide is a crates only treat. I learned the hard way that I cannot give them treats together and that even in their crates, they can't see the other dog with one. I suspect Smokey has mild food aggression issues too though it's hard to judge. Thank you for recommending the lickety stick - I will get one for him and work on the kitty issue with him. Should I give him a treat when he lays down after barking at the cat?

Yes, any time he relaxes and stops barking at the cat, or switches his attention to you and obeys when you tell him to lie down, watch me, sit or whatever, give him praise and a few licks of the lickety stick. It may get better in baby steps, but it should get better.
My hat's really off to you for going through all this for these boys! I hope they find wonderful homes, and soon!

subkject2change, Smokey I think will find a home quickly. I hope. I mean, look at this gorgeous face! And for a 9 momth old pup, he has some good manners and really wants to please.

Harry though, I have to help become more adoptable. Even if my time is limited, he is going to have a heck of a time finding a home as he is now. I will reward him for listening - thanks!

He is gorgeous! He reminds me very much of one of my current favorites at our shelter. Since he's so well behaved, maybe you should take him along when you shop for that lickety stick, or any time you go to pet supply stores. You never know who might be there and fall in love!

Ooohhhhhhh GOOD idea! I seriously am in love with this boy. I want one as much like him as possible when I am ready to be a real, good, proper dog owner, not a stop gap measure to avoid dying.

Big brag - Harry learned to sit today! I have some small treats he enjoys and and he just sat about 8 times for me. I'll keep reinforcing it for him.
