communal water bowls... (training, cough, kennel, vaccination)

at a dog park, some people put their water bowls out and leave them, and any dog can drink from them. i try to keep mine from drinking from them. today someone left a bowl with water - i walked over and turned it over.
I take my dogs to training classes and there is always a communal water bowl. I don't want my dogs drinking from it, I bring our own dish and water for them. When they get curious about the group water I call them over to drink their own. I mainly worry about kennel cough / bordetella because the vaccine is pretty worthless.
It's pretty rude, if you're concerned you should just not take them to the dog park.
oh, you mean i was rude for turning the water bowl over? there was only one other owner with a couple dogs, and i asked them first if that was their water bowl. they replied in the negative, so i emptied the bowl.
Our dog park has a dog drinking fountain. I'm not concerned about communal bowls, and I agree that you shouldn't have emptied out someone else's bowl. If you don't want your dog drinking out of it, keep your dog far away from it.
People who bring their dogs to a dog park tend to be very responsible. Most if not all the dogs are vaccinated for bordetella and everything else. They swap a lot of spit when they play and they put their noses up each others' butts. Keeping them from sharing a water bowl won't reduce disease transmission if disease is present in the park.
Unless you want the other dog owners to point at you when you arrive at the park, I think you should stop doing that.

i don't see that it's wise to assume the vaccination background of random dogs in a dog park. that's like saying you won't catch TB on a bus because everyone is alright.

But then if these dogs aren't vaccinated, won't your dog just as easily catch something by playing and having that dog's slobber all over them?
The dog parks I've gone to all have communal dog bowls around the area. No one brings bowls an leaves them behind. Dumping them out is just a waste of water as others will come after you and fill it up for their dogs.
sure, i also could rename him bubble dog (in homage to bubble boy, the movie) and encase him in a hermetically sealed suit so he'll be immune to any antigen. but we're talking about the real world here.
