My beloved Alfie, a rescue dog I got in Manhattan, died fairly recently. While I have an auxiliary emergency backup dog, I really feel the need to get another White German Shepherd (GSD), for they are the sweetest of Shepherds, and I like big dogs. Problem is, genetically, they are highly flawed, with problems like severe allergies and extreme fear of people, so I need a really well-respected breeder. I've checked Google without result. I've attached a photo of a White GSD, in case you've never seen one (the photo isn't of my dear departed Alfie -- the pain is too fresh to post one of her pix).
I live in Rhode Island, but would be open to travelling within a reasonable distance. Thing is, I want to visit the dog's parents and get a sense of the sociability of the litter.
Why not meet the dog himself or herself? There are too many wonderful homeless dogs who would be happy to come to live with you and devote their lives to you. Many are white German Shepherds.
Read the following link, then look at the dogs who need homes. This rescue organization has dogs all over the country.
I'm pretty sure that "reputable" and White German Shepherd breeder" are contradiction in terms.
It's not a recognized color. Reputable German Shepherd breeders do not breed non-recognized colors.
I suggest that you consider a nice German Shepherd of a standard color, or perhaps go to a Canadian breeder. Unless the standards have changed in Canada, white is a color that is allowed there. Although, you will still have a problem finding a reputable breeder who breeds for white.

Many thanks.
if they are highly flawed genetically why would they be bred?

I'm not concerned about AKC credentials, I just want a normal, healthy White. I consulted with my dear demised dog's vet, a dermatological specialist who treated my Alfie for 12 years. She strongly discouraged me from getting another one and suggested I stick with a standard German. Given all the health and sociability issues with a White, I'm going to take her advice.
the key here is a repuatable breeder breeds to breed standard...they try to breed to maintain and "better" a breed, and that includes breeding to the standard set forth in the breed description...
given that whit is a NONE accepted color, you wouldnt find a repuatable breeder purposely breeding for white because theyn they WOULDNT be breeding to maintain/better their breed of choice.
hope that makes sense.
now RESCUING a white shepherd is Wonderful...
but if looking for a well bred dog form a good breeder id stick to going through the GSD club of Americas breeder referral page

Thanks to all who provided insight.

I am so glad to hear this. There definitely people here to help you find a good reputable breeder for GS!! Love the breed. Good Luck to you!
When colors are not recognized in most breeds, there are reasons for it. It's not willy nilly and not personal likes or dislikes. Many breeds don't accept certain colors because of health problems associated with those colors. And most good breeders, or I should say dedicated breeders do their best not to produce those problem colors or combinations of colors.
A white Shepard can be a beautiful dog, but it can also be one big walking vet bill. Of course it's up to the individual looking for a new dog to go that route if they choose, just be warned of what could be coming along with that adorable new and different looking puppy.
It's good you talked to your vet and I commend you for taking the time to put serious thought into what the next dog will be. It's so hard when we lose them and we want another one just like them...... unfortunately most times that doesn't happen no matter how hard we try to find it. Take your time looking for a new pooch, especially in this breed. Check health best you can! Nothing finer then a great shep!!! Nothing worse then a sick one with poor temperment.
