Dogs align their bodies along a North-South axis when they poop

Not that I think this will make me a C-D Most Informative Poster! But it's weird, yes?

One of my dogs definitely circles a lot before pooping. The other one wanders around first. I'm definitely going to be watching for this lol! Thanks for the Fun Fact.
PS, I love the picture that accompanies the article!

ROFL!!! That is hysterical. I often wondered why it was so difficult for them to find the right spot.

I've known a couple of dogs that poop in a "'trail" walking as they go...wonder what their issue is? LOL

The only dog I watch consistently always faces dead east (towards the house).

The only reason I always watch her is that she is going out into a yard where the fence isn't high enough to keep a coyote out. The rest of the dogs, unless I am housetraining, are on their own and can face any direction they like, as long as they are outside doing their thing and not inside the house.

My dog poops east / west! And it *must* be done in ONLY in a certain spot. That spot must be chosen with a lot of care.

And when walking my male dog, there are many trees, sign posts, fire hydrants, etc. which look to me like excellent pee spots. But my dog will select only certain ones to pee on. I have no idea what makes one tree better than another?
