My sons GF has a black lab and the dog started yelping out in pain several times a day. she took it to the vet and was told the problem is an abscessed tooth. Anyone ever face this and what kind of bill can she expect?. I assume the dog will have to be totally sedated and this alone can cost allot I bet. thanks

the dog will need a course of anitbiotics then will need to be sedated and the tooth pulled,
your location will dicate price but around here your looking at $40 for the office visit, about $15 for a 14 day course of anitbiotics and surgery cost will depend on now many teeth pulled, expect anything from $200-$600 depending on your area and how many teeth need pulling...
but they cannot pull the bad teeth while the infection (abcess) is present so he will need a round of antibitocis first (just like with people.)

Do you know for sure it is an abcessed tooth?
We thought our boy had an abcessed tooth a few years ago, took him in and after he was sedated Doc found a popcorn hull that had lodged in Walter's gum. Doc drained the pus, gave us antibiotics and sent us on our way, no tooth removal necessary.
It still cost us a couple hundred dollars but most of that was the sedation and antibiotic.

depends on how old the dog is... they are going to get bad teeth if they are over age 7-8 and the teeth are never brushed. Otherwise, yes, it could be something else.
I think last time we had our dog done it was $600 or thereabouts for the surgery. Yes it is expensive, vets are expensive no matter what you get done there. There is some kind of vet care credit card where you can put it on that, and pay for up to a year with no interest rate... You need to get rotten teeth removed. I know of a dog who died from an infected tooth. Owners were not aware, and the infection spread very sudden too.

Yep my little one just got through with an abcessed tooth and now he has 8 teeth that is how bad his teeth were we had no idea but we paid close to 300 for the surgery alone and about 100 for his meds and now Im brushing his teeth like crazy and when the big dog gets his teeth out I suggest whoever owns that dog start brushing his teeth . it may take him awhile to get used to it but it will keep you from having to pay another enormous dental bill .
